Travis Bort
I started my creative career back in 1996 as a photographer and videographer – just me, a camera and a drive to make things that looked great and made sense for the client. Over time, I found myself stepping into more of a creative director role, working closely with clients, guiding design teams, and helping shape everything from graphics and video to websites. I became the translator between what clients wanted and what creatives needed to build. And I got really good at making creative that not only worked – but that clients actually loved.
In 2005, I bought the agency I had helped build, and since then, I’ve steadily grown it into a full-service creative shop. We’ve worked with companies across almost every industry, and while the projects have varied, the goal has always been the same: deliver smart, original, effective creative.
I’m not a sales guy. Never have been. The business has grown through relationships, referrals, and doing right by people. That’s always been my focus. My faith has played a big part in how I run the business. I believe in doing honest work, telling the truth, and treating people fairly – clients, vendors, employees, everyone. I’ve never lied to a client or burned a partner and I take a lot of pride in that.
But here’s the thing: while I’ve spent most of my life in a creative, white-collar industry, every chance I’ve had to get away, I’ve been outdoors. Hunting, fishing, going to outdoor shows, shooting my bow, dialing in my gear – that’s always been my true passion. And over the years I’ve found that the best ideas and the best partnerships were born while sharing a glass of whisky or hanging around a campfire and not in a conference room.
So now that I’m a little older and wiser, I’ve decided it’s time to bring my personal life and professional life together. That’s why I created ABC Idea Based – a spinoff of the agency I’ve owned since 2005 and worked at since 1996.
We still do everything we’ve always done: branding, video, media, strategy, all of it. But, now we’re focused on companies that live in the outdoor space: hunting, fishing, American-made products. Businesses that share the same values I do.
The work is still creative. It still has to perform. But now it’s personal too. And that makes it better than ever.
