(8/27/20 – Syracuse, N.Y.) ABC is helping the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) get critical legislation passed in the state Assembly using a multimedia, multi-audience approach.
An ABC-produced video provides the focal point for the campaign aimed specifically at legislators, who are currently considering a bill that would allow volunteer fire department EMS to charge for their services. New York is currently the only state in the nation that doesn’t allow billing by volunteer EMS, something that equates to more than $100 million in lost revenue each year.
ABC crossed the state, collecting firsthand accounts from Long Island and Western New York communities. Volunteer fire department leadership in those locations told the story of the financial struggles their EMS face, especially during a pandemic that only adds to costs.
ABC created a landing page specifically aimed at Assembly members that includes the video. ABC will simultaneously be mobilizing FASNY membership to contact their legislators with an alternate version of the video to be used in e-communications and on social media. ABC also authored a cover story about the bill in the latest edition of The Volunteer Firefighter, the magazine if has produced for FASNY for more than 20 years.
