Route 81 App by ABC Creative Group Tells You Where to Stop When You’re on the Go

(WWNY-TV – 2/10/2014) Have you ever driven on Route 81 and wanted to know where to exit to get gas or a bite to eat.

Now there’s an app for that.

The 1000 Islands International Tourism Council, in collaboration with Tourism Promotion Agencies from Oswego, Onondaga, Cortland and Broome counties, have announced the launch of the 81exits.com mobile website.

The website, developed by Syracuse agency ABC Creative Group, uses geolocation to give you an exit-by-exit guide to gas, food and lodging.

It also includes attraction recommendations and descriptions for each community along the way.

Travelers simply enter 81exits.com into their mobile browser to begin the experience.

Each listing includes distance from the exit, websites when available and an instant mapping function.

“We wanted to create a reliable resource with information provided and updated by the tourism offices and chambers of commerce that service the I-81 corridor,” said Gary DeYoung, Tourism Council director, in a news release. “What separates this product from search-engine results is its simplicity and reliability that the traveler is getting information from the offices charged with providing it.”

The website is the first-phase of the I-81 project.

Interactive displays at staffed welcome centers and visitor information stops will debut this spring.

A printed companion brochure is planned for later in 2014.

The 81exits.com tourism initiative was funded by a Market NY grant from the state Department of Economic Development.
